Imagine Griffith - Hometown Christmas

On December 6, 2014, Imagine Griffith is hosting our annual holiday event Griffith Hometown Christmas -- The Spirit of Giving.

Proceeds collected at the event will be donated to Griffith Emergency Services (GES). In 2008, GES collected and distributed over $10,000 to residents impacted by the tornado and/or flood. In 2013, GES distributed 75-80 food/toy baskets to the less fortunate in our town to help them have a happy holiday. GES is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization run by volunteers.

This year, Imagine Griffith is collaborating with the YMCA, the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the South Shore Dance Alliance, and several local businesses to make this our biggest and best event of the year.

From 1-4 p.m. on the grounds of the Franklin Center, there will be Christmas carols performed by the Griffith Middle School choir and band, Reed’s Temple and St. Mary’s. Many businesses have purchased trees to decorate and display on the grounds. There will be a Tree and Nativity Scene Walk. The Rotary Club will sponsor a Wreath Raffle. Griffith Boy Scouts will serve hot chocolate and Imagine Griffith will serve cookies and granola bars. Santa will be available to visit with children and adults from 2-4 p.m. Children can help decorate the Imagine Griffith tree. The Chamber of Commerce will collect new unwrapped toys in the lobby of the YMCA from 1-4 p.m.

Culminating the event, South Shore Dance Alliance will perform a one-hour rendition of the Nutcracker starting at 4:30 p.m. inside the Franklin Center. The price of admission will be either 1) a new unwrapped toy ($10 minimum), or 2) non-perishable food items ($5 minimum), or a cash donation ($5 minimum).

Grindhouse Café and Lady’s Gourmet Popcorn have graciously agreed to sell popcorn and drinks at the Nutcracker and donate all of the proceeds to GES.

After the Nutcracker, the opportunity to give continues. Several local restaurants are also going to participate. Flyers will be distributed to everyone who attends the event. Everyone who patronizes one of the restaurants will have ten percent of their bill donated by the restaurant to GES.

Griffith FOP Shop With A Cop

The Holiday Season is fast approaching and there are children in the Town of Griffith who will not receive gifts due to difficult financial situations with their families. For the past several years, Griffith F.O.P. Lodge #161 has raised funds to take underprivileged children shopping. Over the years numerous children have been able to receive winter clothes, school supplies, and other necessary items as well as toys to brighten their holidays.  Anything you can give toward Shop With A Cop and other charitable organizations would be greatly appreciated. Without your participation this would not have been possible and we look forward to your continued support of our "Shop With A Cop" and other charitable programs.

Donations can be either dropped off at the Police Station or you can mail them by first filling out the card found HERE and mailing to the address listed.

Thank you!

Message from Griffith Police Dept and Griffith Crime Watch Message from Griffith Police Dept and Griffith Crime Watch

Graffiti is vandalism that scars our community, hurts property values, and diminishes our quality of life. To combat this crime and to maintain the beauty of our Town, the Town of Griffith offers free graffiti removal services to both public and private property owners.

To help us make this program a success, we ask that all of our residents and visitors to be on the look-out for any graffiti, on public or private property, and to report any observed instances to the Griffith Police Department at (219) 924-7503.

Once notified of the vandalism a police report will be generated and that report will be forwarded to the Griffith Parks Department.  After receiving the report, the Griffith Parks Department’s trained employees will immediately remove graffiti from public property but will need permission from property owners prior to doing any removal on private property.

The Griffith Police Department is dedicated to the apprehension of graffiti vandals and it should be noted that offenders, or parents of offenders, will be held liable for any monetary damages.
