Robert Carney
Officer Robert Carney, a 2007 graduate of Indiana University Criminal Justice Associates Degree Program, swore into the Griffith Police Department in May of 2008. Upon completing his initial training at the Northwest Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, he served as a Patrolman earning the respect of the department which led to him being appointed as a Field Training Officer in 2013.
Officer Carney has served in numerous capacities and with several collateral duties to include the Northwest Indiana Regional SWAT Team and the Indiana District 1 Strike Team of which led to his multiple responses in the area and across the country.
Ofc Carney was selected by the department as a Tactical Officer at which he served for several years, being trained in the internationally recognized Reid Method of Interview and Interrogation. The TAC Officer position is a hybrid position of both patrol and investigations, which gave Officer Carney the opportunity to investigate cases and charge multiple suspects for crimes of all levels. During his tenure as the TAC Officer he was featured in, “Region Cops”, a video profile produced by the Northwest Indiana Times, following Ofc Carney as he carried on his day to day duties.
Ofc Carney has received recognition for multiple incidents of which without his actions, could have escalated to an ending with drastic consequences. Aside from his commitment to his career duties, Ofc Carney has spear headed and volunteered for multiple events and fundraisers to include “No Shave November”, benefitting St Jude Hospital and others.
Having proven himself in many roles as a Griffith Police Officer, Ofc Carney will now take the oath to serve as a supervisor, being promoted to a Corporal in the Patrol Division of the Griffith Police Department.
