Water Leaks & Water Meters
If you receive a water bill that appears unusually high, the first thing to check is your water meter. Make sure all faucets, outside spigots, toilets, and any appliances that use water such as washing machines & dishwashers are turned off. Observe or look at your water meter for at least three minutes. If the register dial is moving, there is a leak somewhere. Often times the toilet flapper inside the toilet reservoir is leaking and/or not shutting off.
