Trash Collection Notes

The Town of Griffith's contract with Republic Services allows for removal of one (1) large item per week. Items such as; furniture, carpet and appliances. Excluded is construction debris, electronic waste, hazardous waste and tires. All carpeting must be cut into sections no larger than four (4) feet in length and bundled. Each bundle cannot weigh more than 50 lbs. 

Republic encourages residents to place ALL trash, including grass clippings and branches, in a trash container for collection. Yard waste collected by Republic is disposed in the same landfill as regular trash so there is no need to separate. Yard waste can be placed loose or in bags (plastic or paper) and placed in the container, with or without regular trash, which will be grabbed mechanically, and emptied into the truck. This process is more efficient and safer for the workers collecting your trash. 

An additional cart can be obtained from Republic {219) 662-8600 for a fee and would be billed directly by Republic. The additional cart will not affect the trash rate paid on your monthly utility bill. Residents may also purchase their own extra trash container, plastic or metal. However, Republic will not accept responsibility for any damage to customer-owned trash cans.
